Quiet understated Casey Key was the perfect location for homeowners to build their vacation compound. The project was build in 3 stages and homeowners were very involved in the design phase – the guesthouse was built first which allowed them to move in and be intimately involved in the process.
Great attention was given to space between building to frame the views to the Gulf of Mexico from all buildings connected by an exterior courtyard which also gave the compound a ‘village feel’. The homeowner’s lifestyle was a major consideration – working in the gardening, walking on the beach and having dinner parties. To allow for ease of movement through the site at beach level, Sarasota County Commissioners granted a special exception to lower the finish floor elevation. Another major goal was to not overwhelm the site with tall buildings.
